About me
Hello, I’m Ellen DeLange, a children’s book author living in Canada. I have always been fascinated by books ever since I was a child. In the attic of my home I assembled a small library and I shared my collection with family and friends. During my adult life I started travelling and extended my library with picture books from all over the world. I have always enjoyed making up my own stories. While completing a doctorate in medical sciences, I wrote my first picture book ‘A Story with a Tail. This book was nominated for the Prize of the City of Hasselt and published by Clavis in 2002.
New ideas for children's books often arise when I am walking in the woods with my dogs, when sailing on the ocean, or while I am enjoying cups of fresh ginger tea. During these mindful moments I have some time to not think at all...just wonder, be amazed and let my imagination run freely.

Collaborating with Illustrators
When I have the draft manuscript of a story ready, I can already clearly picture the feel of the illustration style I am looking for in my head. I really enjoy collaborating directly with illustrators who can complement my stories with their own specific creativity. This is when the magic happens and the characters come to life. This is what makes each book unique! I enjoy receiving enthusiastic feedback from parents and children. It is truly inspiring to learn that the universal themes I write about resonate with such a broad audience.
